WinningBarrelHorses.com or Merle Morgan Ranch. This is a family
operation owned by Merle & Terri Morgan, and Scott & Desirae Wheeler.
Our horses are mostly being competed on by Desirae Wheeler.
The Merle Morgan Ranch has been
racing on the flat track for over 30 years. Merle Morgan owned and
trained the race horses while Terri Morgan rode the horses as a jockey.
Merle & Terri became very educated on taking care of the horses from
vaccinating, antibiotics, leg care, foaling, breeding, to castrating
stallions, palpate follicles, caslicks sutures, preg. checks mares, etc.
Both Terri & Merle trained and owned multiple stakes winners some
including Easy Bo Jangles and Smokem Tiny (check out our stallion
references). Terri & Merle raced Thoroughbreds, Paints, and
Quarter Horses.
Over the years Terri & Merle had
4 boys and 2 girls. Both of the girls (Cindy Bates and Desirae
Wheeler) rode the horses. Cindy Bates during her school years rode
the Thoroughbreds and one Quarter Horse in Dressage as well as Jumping. Desirae Wheeler became a Jockey on the race track during her school
years. Desirae's last year in High School is when she joined High
School Rodeo. Desirae rode her first two horses she had trained in
barrel racing, TM Gotcha and TM Lil Cashier. Desirae was taught by
Sue Smith on the basics of barrel racing.
Desirae took TM Lil Cashier to
qualify to her first year to the state finals in Pole Bending in 2003.
Both were inexperienced and fell apart during the state meet.
Desirae and "Cashier" competed in the International Pro Rodeo
Association the summer of 2004 and qualified to the finals in Blackfoot,
ID. Desirae and Cashier were winning multiple rodeos and multiple
1D barrel races. The fall of 2005 Desirae joined the WPRA and
filled her permit with Cashier on her first 2 rodeos one including: 2nd
at the WPRA War Bonnet Round Up at Idaho Falls, ID. Then in
January of 2006 TM Lil Cashier broke her leg entering the Casa Grande,
AZ arena. Cashier is now a broodmare, check her out on our web

During the years Desirae started
to get into barrel futurities. She started SmokeFlashImGone.
Desirae and "Smokey" won the
1st go at Salina, UT in August of 2008. He won the first go
of the Derby at Rocksprings, WY in 2007. He won the open the next day
and had the fastest time of the weekend at Rocksprings. He has won over
$15,000 as a barrel futurity foal. He also runs 20's in the poles. He
won the first go in the futurity at Walla Walla, WA, took 4th in the
average, won the amateur futurity and average, he also was 2nd in the
open in Moses Lake, WA, 2nd in the 1st go futurity, 4th in the 2nd go
futurity, 2nd in the average futurity, won the American West side pot
and the amateur in Moses Lake, WA. Won the 1st go in Nampa, ID futurity
and tipped the next go. Took 5th in the average at the Oakley, UT
futurity running a little sore on his feet. Also, has placed many times
in the 1D barrels / poles. He took American West Futurity champion of
the year and took 4th in open states points. Just recently Desirae took
2nd in the average at the Bosen Ogden Futurity 2009 and won the 2nd go
round with the fastest futurity time of 13.6. With two of her horses she
placed 3rd and 4th in the open 1D.
Desirae & Scott train all the
horses themselves with the help of Terri & Merle. Terri & Merle
start them under the saddle while Scott rides them for the first few
months. Desirae takes them from then on and trains them to the
barrels.
Desirae & Scott have a handsome boy named Cole and
a beautiful baby girl named Alisha. Terri, Merle, Desirae, Scott, Cole,
& Alisha plan on
competing in rodeos, barrel futurities, and jackpots. Look for us

They also sell dogs: Pomeranians and Yorkies.
They own a car dealership and in their spare
time they farm hay.
